A Review of the Doina Cornea Foundation at the Beginning of the Year

Leontin Horațiu Iuhas

Five years have already passed since the Doina Cornea Foundation came into being, de facto. Everything we have achieved during these five years has been possible only thanks to those individuals, NGOs, and also companies who believed in us and supported us!

Thank you! Without your support, nothing of what we have done would have been possible!

Thanks to you, and only thanks to you, over these five years we have accomplished:

  • The charity concert “Doina Cornea – Light from Darkness,” held in the Auditorium Maximum concert hall in Cluj-Napoca (Casa Universitarilor). The concert was performed by Alexandru Tomescu and the ensemble “Flauto Dolce,” with the participation of actor Dorel Vișan.
  • The organization, in partnership with the association Create.Act.Enjoy, within the Case de Poveste program, of several guided visits to Doina Cornea’s home.
  • The organization, in partnership with the Czech Centre in Bucharest, the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania, Create.Act.Enjoy, and Artmark, of the exhibition “Heroines,” centered on the personality of Doina Cornea.
  • The establishment, through the protocol signed with the “Lucian Blaga” Central University Library in Cluj-Napoca, of the Doina Cornea Library, which thus became a branch of the CUL.
  • The founding and accreditation, at the National Library of Romania, of Doina Cornea Publishing House, as a department of the Foundation.
  • The organization of the pilgrimage “They Are the Heroes / A Tribute to the Martyrs of the Nation / 2922 km for 2922 Days of Detention,” in collaboration with Marius Balo, AFDPR, the “15 November Brașov” Association, the Civic Academy Foundation, and the Rupicapra Association.
  • The production, together with Romanian Television, of the TV film “2922,” focusing on Marius Balo’s pilgrimage to the main places of detention and extermination of the nation’s martyrs.
  • The establishment within the Foundation of the Center for the Investigation of the Crimes of Communism in Romania, and the organization of several archaeological campaigns to uncover the victims of communism, coordinated by historians Gheorghe Petrov and Marius Oprea (Caransebeș, Târgu Ocna, Periprava, Insula Mare a Brăilei).
  • The organization of the exhibition “Doina Cornea – The Lady Behind the Window” at the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca and at the National Museum of History of Moldova in Chișinău.
  • The organization, in partnership with Mrs. Tatiana Alban, of the exhibition “Children Exhibit Together with Doina Cornea” at the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca.
  • Participation with exhibits in the creation of a “Doina Cornea” room within the exhibition “The Country We Come From. The First 35 Years,” held in the house “La Mița Biciclista” in Bucharest.
  • The editing and online publication of the monthly bulletin “From Opposition to Democracy.”

For this year, we have several projects which, with your help, we will carry out:

  • The organization of the exhibition, which we wish to make itinerant, “Doina Cornea – Portraits and Fragments from a Journal,” in Debrecen, Hungary.
  • The organization of archaeological excavations to uncover the victims of communism on Insula Mare a Brăilei and at Ocnele Mari.
  • The launch of the traveling exhibition presenting the results of our archaeological research in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine, “In Romania, Memory Is Sought Beneath the Ground; in Ukraine, Memory Is Being Built Now.”
  • The production of audiobooks of Doina Cornea’s written works.
  • The creation of a virtual museum: “Doina Cornea Memorial House.”
