“Doina Cornea – Portraits and Fragments from a Journal”

Leontin Horațiu Iuhas
Debrecen – Hungary (3–30 March 2026)
In March 2026, the Doina Cornea Foundation will organize in Debrecen, Hungary, a special exhibition dedicated to Doina Cornea’s visual artwork, under the title:
“Doina Cornea – Portraits and Fragments from a Journal”
The exhibition will be hosted by the Méliusz Juhász Péter Regional Library, one of the city’s leading cultural institutions, known for its consistent exhibition program and its openness to international cultural dialogue.
The event in Debrecen marks the inauguration of a new concept in the series of exhibitions we are preparing: not only the presentation of paintings as artistic objects, but also their integration into a form of confession and memory.
The exhibition will include a selection of portraits created by Doina Cornea — oil paintings and drawings — accompanied by short excerpts from her personal journal. In this way, visitors will leave not only with the image of the works in their minds, but also with a small part of the author’s soul.
Debrecen is one of Hungary’s major cultural centers, a city with a remarkable university and artistic tradition, often called “the cultural capital of Eastern Hungary.” The city hosts every year literary festivals, musical events, and contemporary art exhibitions, serving as a vibrant space where memory and modernity meet.
In this context, the exhibition dedicated to Doina Cornea naturally becomes part of a cultural landscape that values freedom of expression, European identity, and dialogue between peoples.
This exhibition represents an important step in the broader project of recovering and promoting the artistic and moral heritage left by Doina Cornea — a legacy that continues to speak not only to Romania, but also to today’s Europe.
